Our FAQ's
We know that it can be a little scary bringing your child swimming for the first time, here are the most common questions we get asked. If you're looking for something specific, we have grouped the answers into different topics, and if you still can't find the answer, feel free to get in Touch.
-
Is there parking at the pool?Yes all our pools have parking.
-
Where can I buy nappies?, Goggles, Swim Fins etc?We do have a small stock available to purchase, if we can't, or are out of stock, we can point you in the right direction. Please do not rely on us having swim nappies etc for your session available.
-
What class should I choose for my child? Please refer to Swim England Awards to see what stage your child is at, then book on to the relevant class, if in doubt, please get in contact.
-
How long will it take for my child to learn how to swim?Unfortunately there is no set answer on how long it takes a child to learn, every child is different and sometimes increasing their confidence can in some cases take far longer than the learn to swim process.
-
Do I need to let you know if my child isn’t attending their lesson?Yes it would be really helpful to let our teachers know if you were not attending.
-
What notice will you require if we stop lessons?A months notice must be given which enables us to offer your space to our waiting list.
-
What do we need to bring?Swimwear and goggles for those in independent classes for those in adult and child classes if they are not toilet trained then a double nappy system should be worn (swim nappy plus neoprene nappy cover over the top (happy nappy).
-
Do we need swimming hats?Swim hats are not essential however we do require hair to be fully tied back any fringes that may get in the way a swimming hat would then be recommended.
-
How long are lessons? All lessons are 30 minutes long. Please arrive on time to be ready to enter the pool at the start of your session.
-
What level should my child be swimming at?There are no ages or length of time that say what level your child should be at however all our after school swimming lessons will start their learn to swim programme on Swim England Duckling awards and Swim England Stage awards.
-
Will my child get certificates/badges?Absolutely every child at the end of every term will receive at least 1 certificate and badge, these are charged at an extra £4.50 per one.
-
What happens if a pool suffers from a closure?Unfortunately this happens from time to time and you will be offered another location as catch up or we will place a catch up in the school holidays.
-
What insurance do you have? All our teachers have their own personal insurance through the Institute of Swimming or Swim Teachers Association, as well as the swim school having it's own insurance through BGI.
-
Can I have a 'taster' session?Unfortunately we don't offer these currently, this is purely because we have such a large waiting list its best to start everyone together on the start of term so it causes minimal disruption to the class.
-
Can I cancel half way through a term?Unfortunately once the term fees are paid there is no option to cancel which is why we only charge half term instead of committing to the whole term, we have very few leave mid way and if they do its usually because of parents work commitments and we are usually able to re-locate to a different day.
-
Do you do any session on safety and rescue training? We do, once a term we ask all children to come in wearing their pyjamas and we teach a variation of skills on how to rescue themselves to how to rescue others without putting the self at harm.
-
Can I watch my child swimming?Unfortunately the high schools have a no spectator policy, in some cases there is a small window in the changing area, we do however send video diary's once a term and every term your child receives a progress report from their swimming teacher, you can however message us at anytime for updates on how your child is getting on.
-
Can two parents/ guardians get in the water in parent and toddler classes?Unfortunately due to trialing this we dont think it works as well as children can get easily confused on who to go with and it became a game of passing backwards and forwards, however we do accommodate alternate weeks so one parent can come 1 week and the other the next or as little or as much they require.
-
If I cant attend a session due to holiday or illness will I get a refund?Unfortunately our pool hire and staff wages do not decrease if your child cannot attend therefore we cannot refund or credit those sessions, however we will were possible try our best to accommodate a catch up session at one of our other locations.
-
How long will it take for my child to learn how to swim?Unfortunately there is no set answer on how long it takes a child to learn, every child is different and sometimes increasing their confidence can in some cases take far longer than the learn to swim process.
